Yes, you read that correctly!
It’s been discovered that an archaic piece of legislation drawn up around 1665, the time of the Black Death, was never removed from the statute books. This law states that all places of industry must have a dog or a cat onsite during working hours – presumably to hunt and kill rats, to curb the spread of the plague.
This bizarre law was over-ridden (probably unknowingly) by other legislation held by the EU. So as things stand, when the UK leaves the EU during Brexit, it will come back into effect.
So yes, Office Dogs (or Cats) will then become mandatory by law! Finally, something good to come out of Brexit.
Sorry. Sadly, Office Dogs will NOT be mandatory post-Brexit.
